Introduction to the Summit 2019
The “Fifth National Summit of the Health and Population Scientists in Nepal” is being organized by the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) with the theme “Research for Equity and Development in the Federal Context”. NHRC is an autonomous body of Government of Nepal that promotes health research culture in the country by facilitating communication between researchers and policymakers to support evidence based health policy and practice. The Fifth National Summit will be a continuum of the previous summits as an annual gathering that provides a platform for researchers and academicians to share recent and relevant health evidences; and policymakers to interact with researchers and academia to identify recent evidences.
After the promulgation of Constitution of Nepal 2015 (2072 B.S), the health system has entered into a Federal Structure. Furthermore, as a signatory member state of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is an immediate need to embark on SDGs implementation at federal, provincial and local levels. Implementing SDGs means that living no one behind in terms of health services and its benefits. Health research therefore, should uncover health system related evidence from equity perspective at all levels. The evidence will then need to be accessible to policymakers for better policy choices.
Health and population scientists can have a significant contribution to generate evidences, which in turn provides an insight into the need for quality research in the country within the context of changing health systems. The initial tracking of the available evidences become immense in developing and promoting further actions for successfully organizing a sustainable health system at the federal, provincial and the local governments.
The summit will focus on research conducted on the national health priority areas of Nepal. Beside the priority areas, this summit will focus on bringing public private partnership in health research promotion and role of digital health and big data for promotion of research, innovation and development. Furthermore, this summit will also focus on need of advancing evidences for equity and development in the federal context of Nepal with the theme of “Research for Equity and Development in the Federal Context”.
Realizing these needs, it is our pleasure to host the Fourth Summit with the theme
